Metal Roof Repairs in Dallas: 3 Keys to Getting Rid of Roof Leaks

The three keys to successful metal roof repair are: Identify the source of the leak, check for hail damage, and find a great metal roofing contractor to repair your roof.

Roof leaks can be a major problem. If water leaks down into your home, it can damage drywall and even create toxic mold growth. This is true for any type of roof, whether it’s a traditional shingle roof, or an aging metal roof.

That’s why it’s so important to get metal roof repairs done properly.

Step 1: Identify The Source of The Leak

Unless you plan to replace the entire roof, it’s important to find the source of the leak. A high quality, properly installed metal roof doesn’t leak.

So the first thing you want to check is whether your metal roof was installed properly in the first place.

Some of the more common installation issues we see are:

  • No closure strips at the ridge cap
  • No butyl tape on low slope seams
  • Roof panels overlapping in the wrong direction
  • Lack of proper trim around the edges of the roof

If the roof installer used flashing around vent pipes that are designed for shingle roofs, it will almost certainly cause your metal roof to leak over time.

Correctly identifying the source of the leak is the first step to getting your roof repaired.

Step 2: Check for Hail Damage

A high quality metal roof can withstand a lot of hail. However, if you have a low quality metal roof, it may have sustained hail damage

If your home is properly insured, this is actually good news. If your insurance company accepts your claim, they will normally pay to have your old metal roof replaced with a brand new, quality metal roof.

Here at Texas Metal Master, we have extensive experience with successfully managing insurance claims.

Step 3: Hire a Metal Roofing Contractor to Repair or Replace Your Roof

Metal roof repairs can be tricky. We strongly recommend hiring a metal roofing contractor that has experience with installing and repairing metal roofs.

So how can you find a good metal roofing contractor?

First of all, find them online and read their reviews. A great metal roofing company should have lots of 5 star reviews on Google.

Secondly, ask to see a warranty certificate from the manufacturer. A good metal roofing contractor has no problem producing this certificate, whereas a contractor doing shoddy work may be using inferior quality panels that don’t have any warranty.

Bottom line if you have a metal roof that needs repair, you likely either have a roof that was installed incorrectly, or a low quality metal roof.
